The Leaside Leafs invite players born in 2008 who are interested in competitive baseball to try out for the 2018 Leaside Leafs Minor Mosquito Select Team. Tryouts will take place mid-September (as indicated below) and selection shall be at the discretion of the coaching team.

The 2018 Leaside Select Minor Mosquito team will place emphasis on creating a fun and positive experience, developing young competitive baseball players, and instilling a love of baseball with a heavy emphasis on teamwork.

 

TEAM SCHEDULE:

Practices: The team will commence practices in the fall (once a week), we will take a 2 month break late fall/early winter, then resume indoors during the winter months, moving to outdoor practices (weekly) in late April or early May (weather dependent). Exact day of the week for practices will be established once facilities have been identified.

Games: The team will participate in the Toronto Baseball Association (TBA). Games will take place on Sundays starting in late May and running into August. There will be 9-10 regular season games. The Head Coach will also schedule exhibition games or make-up games for rain-outs or low attendance (typically in July we reschedule a couple of games to June or early August). There are typically no games scheduled on the Canada Day or Civic long weekends.

Tournaments: We plan to play in 1-2 tournaments over the season, plus the TBA tournament (City Championship) which is typically the weekend following the August long weekend and the OBA Provincial Playoffs (if we win the TBAs - we were the TBA East champions in 2017) taking place Labour Day weekend. Tournament locations will be determined March-April 2018.

 

TEAM COMMITMENT:

An important aspect of the Select program is commitment to the team, and respecting the opportunity to play for a competitive team. Players are expected to attend a significant portion of Select practices, games and tournaments. The aim is to build a team that practices and plays together consistently with cohesiveness.

All players should be available to attend the Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) city playoffs in that take place August 10-12th 2018, and, if the team qualifies, the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) provincial championships August 31- September 3 2018.

While effort will be made to establish a set schedule for practices, games and tournaments, some flexibility on the part of players is required as dates and times may change depending upon any number of factors including weather, availability of facilities and player attendance.

Please note that there is a financial commitment to participate in the Select program that could range in the $800-$1200 level to cover league fees, practice fields, non-parent coach, training, equipment, a week of Leaside baseball camp for the team and tournaments.
