2018 Minor Mosquito Select (2008 birth year, 10U)

Our Philosophy on Tryouts

In alignment with the Leaside Leafs Rep and Select program philosophy, our teams have multiple roster spots open for competition going into tryouts. Any player may have the opportunity to make our team based on the following attributes demonstrated in tryouts:

  1. Coachable and Respectful
  2. Competitiveness
  3. Athleticism
  4. Baseball skill
  5. Baseball experience

We encourage all players from Leaside House Leagues, Leaside Baseball Camp or other programs around Toronto or Ontario to participate in tryouts.

Our Plans for the 2018 Season

Welcome to what will be an unforgettable experience watching your kids play their 1st year of competitive Baseball.

2018 will be the 3rd season of the Leaside Leafs fielding an Underage Minor Rookieball (2011/7U) team.  It is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for kids and families to experience competitive baseball while learning the game, working within a team and most of all, having fun.   Tryouts will produce as many as two separate teams depending on interest and player talent. Since we will be playing against teams a year older (2010/8U), our success will not be defined by wins and losses. We strive to compete in every game, though a successful season will be marked by a positive and fun experience, as well as skill and game development.  These kids will repeat the Minor Rookieball year in 2019, and compete in the “AAA/AA” loop.

As part of this philosophy, each player in the 2018 Leaside Leafs Underage Minor Rookieball Rep program will have an opportunity to play every position throughout the year, as well as multiple positions within each game.

The summer (May-August) schedule is not finalized until the spring, but the expectation is approx. 20 games (some being against York Simcoe teams), 2-3 tournaments (one overnight) and 2 practices per week (in Leaside). Winter practices will be weekly, beginning in January.
